MALPAS ROAD

86 Malpas Road is the address of a private residence in South East London. It was also a site-specific performance that took place inside this semi-detached house.

The audience arrived and waited at this location at dusk. The unannounced, synchronised switch of the lights turned all the windows of the house into live frames. Four people appeared and disappeared in and out of the window- frames in a choreography of the mundane. Short banal actions such as touching the hair, taking off a jumper, walking across the room were slowed down and repeated in loops that generated accidental synchronicities. In watching-in, the audience were observers locked in a private act. The piece ends when the audience were no longer ‘allowed’ to observe in this same way, as the four performers unexpectedly exit through the front door, in real speed, and cross the line back into the public space.

Created and performed by Josh Dolphin, Lorie Jo Trainor Buckingham, Helle Tviberg and Ana Vicente.
